Useful things to protect computer privacy

Computer privacy today has become very important aspect as most of  our generation people have become dependent on it for everything they deal in. Our reliance on computers for any work has made it extremely important to protect computers from data loss, misuse and abuse. For example, businessmen need to keep their information secure and shielded from hackers. Home users also need to ensure their credit card numbers are secure when participating in online transactions. A computer security risk may result in loss of useful and vital data from your computer system.

So here is a list of useful things for different segments of a computer that would help you in protecting computer privacy.

My honest recommendation to people that are not skilled much in computers, is to use these 3 tools together, because these 3 tools are compatibable to each other and cover all fields when it comes to malwares, trojans, bugs and lots of stuff. The tools that I am talking about are stated below-

Malwarebytes – Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) is an application for computers running under the Microsoft Windows operating system that finds and removes malware.

COMODO Firewall – Comodo is great firewall software that will interact with your movements and let you know whats going on in that router.

CCleaner – CCleaner is the number-one tool for cleaning your Windows PC. It protects your privacy online and makes your computer faster and more secure.

Neomailbox – Neomailbox is a paid email hosting service that “has been providing secure and reliable email and private surfing services for 8 years.”

Riseup – Riseup is a webmail provider that offers “secure and private email accounts”.

Lavabit – A simple freemium webmail provider with a clean, fast interface. Has minimal tracking (will only release user data if legally compelled to do so, keeps little user data to begin with and deletes the majority of it within a week). Also offers asymettric encryption for paid users. – Now shut down.

Posteo – Posteo is an e-mail provider, that promises anonymity for the cost of 1 Euro/month. No ads anywhere, Servers powered by green energy. You could even send the money per snail mail, so nobody would ever possibly know who you are. The only downside: It’s completely in german.

Opera Mail – A simplistic e-mail provider run by Opera which protects your privacy. Now shut down.

DuckDuckGo – A general search engine with loads of features which doesn’t track your searches. It’s main features include !Bangs (a shortcut to visit a site of your choice) and Zero Click info (Instant answers appropriate to your query).

ScrubTheWeb – A general search engine which doesn’t track your searches.

Ixquick – A general Image, Web, Video and Phone search engine which doesn’t track your searches. It also provides a proxy mode to visit a website without sharing your IP.

Chromuim – An open-source project which protects your privacy.

IceCat – A version of Firefox which protects your privacy.

Maxthon – An IE-based browser which protects your privacy.

TOR – A free software implementation of second-generation onion routing, a system enabling its users to communicate anonymously on the Internet.

BetterPrivacy – Remove or manage a new and uncommon kind of cookies, better known as LSO’s.The BetterPrivacy safeguard offers various ways to handle Flash-cookies set by Google, YouTube, Ebay and others…

Ghostery – Protect your privacy. See who’s tracking your web browsing and block them with Ghostery.

Https-Everywhere – HTTPS Everywhere is a Firefox extension produced as a collaboration between The Tor Project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. It encrypts your communications with a number of major websites.

Beef Taco – Sets permanent opt-out cookies to stop behavioral advertising for 100+ different advertising networks, including Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, all members of the Network Advertising Initiative, and many other companies.

Adblock Plus – Annoyed by adverts? Troubled by tracking? Bothered by banners? Install Adblock Plus now to regain control of the internet and change the way that you view the web.

RefControler – Control what gets sent as the HTTP Referer on a per-site basis.

Pidgin / XMPP – Pidgin is an easy to use and free chat client used by millions. Connect to AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and more chat networks all at once.
But we are interested only into secured protocol such as XMPP with OTR (Off-The-Record) plugin implemented.

All these tools will be extremely helpful for you in securing your computer systems. After all, it is better safe than sorry!
